Meeting Recap 01/09/19

The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Gino’s Italian Restaurant in Palmdale on 09 January 2019.  The venue had to change from our usual location at Sizzler due to a large party of 50 guests at Sizzler who used our normal meeting room.  The meeting was a joint meeting of members from Palmdale Rotary, AV Sunrise Rotary and Rosamond Rotary.  The meeting was called to order by President Sam Garcia at 6:30 PM.  Members in attendance were Chuck Church, Janice Garcia, Tina Borzage, Sharon Freeman, David Maddock, David’s daughter Lisa Catlitt, Yolanda Risch and Sam Garcia from the Palmdale Club.  Gene and Charlene Melchers were in attendance representing the Rosamond Club.  Don Ryan and Bernie Longjohn were in attendance representing the AV Sunrise Club.  Everyone enjoyed dinner.  The formal meeting began at 6:49 PM.

The purpose of the joint meeting was to discuss the possible merger the three existing clubs into one larger club.  Tina Borzage and Chuck Church prepared lists of questions and points for discussion.  Secretary Janice Garcia compiled the data and had sheets printed for everyone at the meeting.  The intent of the merger is to increase the size of the Club to become more robust, be able to accomplish more in the community and have more members available to increase membership.

After initial around the table input from those present, it was unanimously decided that the clubs would merge.  It was decided that the Charter for the Palmdale Club (1950) would be maintained and that the necessary paperwork updates would be implemented.

It was decided that the official date of the new club would be at the end to the current 2018-2019 Rotary year.  The former Rosamond Club will conduct a lunchtime meeting the first week of each month starting in February at a location to be determined.  The former AV Sunrise Rotary Club will move their meetings to Wednesday and join the Palmdale Rotary meetings on Wednesday evenings at Sizzler or a place to be determined.  The combined meetings will begin on 16 January.  The proposed new Club name will be AV Rotary.

Each of the former Clubs will decide on which fund raisers, projects and events to keep in the new AV Rotary Club.  Monies in the individual Club’s General Accounts and Trust Accounts will be merged into new accounts for the 2019-2020 Rotary year and be monitored by the Treasurer such that funds are available to be spent on the charities and projects that are planned for the 2019-2020 Rotary year.

Charlene Melchers will contact District Governor John Chase and inform him and the District Governor Elect of the decision to merge our three clubs.  The new officers will be Gene Melchers (President), Sam Garcia (President Elect), Bernie Longjohn (Vice President), Janice Garcia (Secretary) and Tina Borzage (Treasurer).  Directors and Committee Chairs will be determined in the weeks to come.
