Meeting Recap 01/30/19
The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Sizzler’s Restaurant in Palmdale on 30 January 2019. The meeting was called to order by President Sam Garcia at 6:35 PM. Members in attendance were Chuck Church, Janice Garcia, Sharon Freeman, Tina Borzage, Vickie Ryan, Don Ryan, guests Jim Miceli and his wife Donna and Sam Garcia. Everyone enjoyed dinner. The formal meeting began at 6:50 PM.
President Sam Garcia welcomed our guests for the evening (Jim & Donna Miceli from the Studio City Club) before reviewing his weekly emails from the District Governor and District 5300. The focus of the week’s email was on upcoming events. The Superbuild for 2019 is scheduled for 18 May 2019. The cost is approximately $9,000 per home. This includes cost of materials and educational expenses. There needs to be roughly 45 volunteers per home. The cost per volunteer is $200 plus $30 for the bus ride to the site of construction and your room cost in San Diego. The District Foundation Gala will be in Las Vegas on 16 March 2019. There will be a silent auction and a live auction as well as other activities. The District Conference will be in Orange County at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort on 3-4 May 2019. District Assembly will be on 6 April 2019. The location is still TBD.
The RYLA camp is scheduled for 29-31 March 2019. Facilitators are needed for the event. Our Club is sponsoring two attendees this year.
The new Club will continue to meet on Wednesdays. The merging Clubs are in agreement with having discounted dues for a husband and wife team. The first member will pay full price for dues and the spouse will pay ½ price for their dues.
Vickie and Don Ryan have printed new flyers for the upcoming Sunday Funday event on 14 April 2019 at the Country Club in support of the Yellen School.
