Meeting Recap 03/13/19

The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Gino’s Italian Restaurant in Palmdale on 13 March 2019.  The meeting was called to order by President Sam Garcia at 6:54 PM.  Members in attendance were Chuck Church, Sharon Freeman, Don Ryan, Janice Garcia, Gene Melchers, Yolanda Risch and Sam Garcia.  Everyone enjoyed dinner.  The formal meeting began at 7:10 PM.

Sam Garcia reviewed the weekly emails with the Club Members.  The Club received a very nice thank you from Luanne Arredondo and her son Bry for our hospitality at last week’s meeting.  Most other information concerned upcoming events.  The District Gala is this coming weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The District Conference and Assembly are being held in Orange County this year on May 3rd and 4th.  The Assembly is on May 3, 2019 at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort at 1855 S. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim, CA and runs from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM.  The Conference runs from Friday May 3, 2019 to Saturday May 4, 2019.

Sharon Freeman updated the Club on the status of RYLA camp registration.  All registration activity is completed.  The campers need to attend the informational briefing prior to camp.  The Camp will run from March 29-31, 2019.  We are still trying to work out adult supervision for the bus ride from Palmdale/Lancaster to Victorville.

Rosamond is hosting the 14th Annual Sheriff’s Appreciation Dinner on March 23, 2019 at the Rosamond Elementary School at 5:00 PM.  Tickets are $30 for the Tri-Tip Dinner.  $10 Raffle tickets are being sold at Karl’s Hardware and J’s Hideaway.

Don Ryan updated the Club on the upcoming Sunrise fundraiser Sunday-Funday at the Country Club on April 14, 2019.  The event raises funds to purchase supplies for Yellen School.

Old Business:
The Club Members in attendance continued discussion on the format and location of meetings
when the new club comes into being on July 1, 2019.  One decision was made that the new
club name would be A/V Rotary - Morning, Noon & Night (Palmdale).  Another topic was the
content of meetings for weeks 1-4.  Suggestions included week 1 Board Meeting (evening),
week 2 (noontime), week 3 (Club Business – evening) and week 4 (morning).  It was
suggested that week 5 be set up for a social meeting at various locations to help recruit new
members and promote fellowship.  All the suggested meeting formats and times will need to be
voted on by the Members.  Work has started on preparing the new Bylaws for the Club.

New Business:
     There was no New Business.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 PM.
