Meeting Recap 01/10/18

The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Sizzler’s Restaurant in Palmdale on 10 January 2018.  The meeting was called to order by President Sam Garcia at 6:36 PM.  Members in attendance were: Sharon Freeman, David Maddock, Chuck Church, Janice Garcia, Holly Liebenow, Tina Borzage, Rosanna Budd, Yolanda Risch and Sam Garcia.  Everyone enjoyed dinner.  The formal meeting began at 6:50.

The first item of business was to discuss District 5300 emails sent to Club President Sam Garcia.  Palmdale Rotary will be sending two students to RYLA Camp.  It is most likely that our students will come from our Interact Club at Pete Knight High School.

The second item of business was to reiterate the importance of continued Rotary Foundation contributions (either by payroll deduction or direct contribution).  Chuck Church was selected as the Foundation Candidate for our Club for submittal to the Foundation Gala.

The third item of business was to discuss the classes available from the Rotary Learning Center regarding club membership.  Classes are available on line for signup.

The fourth item of business was to discuss Chuck Church’s follow up with DG Raghada Khoury regarding a list of corporations and organizations that provide financial funding for non-profit clubs.  DG Khoury replied that she did not have an explicit list but that corporation names can be obtained by going on line and finding them through Google.  Chuck followed up by going on line to obtain names, but found that initial searches only came up with companies that will submit your funding requests through their system.  Further searches identified companies that do provide funding but most grants are tied to schools and or children in need of funding.  Additional research is needed to locate 5 to 10 companies to submit requests for funding.

The fifth item of business was to continue the discussion from last week regarding ideas for new projects.  Several items were mentioned.  All of them have merit, they just need members to work the projects.

The next item of business was to continue discussion on the upcoming Foundation Gala (Feb 24) and the President’s Advance (Feb 22-23).  Several members will be attending.

The final item of discussion was for the Club to decide on the date for the Spring Blowout Swap Meet sale at 4 Corners in Palmdale.  April 15th was decided by the Club.
