Meeting Recap 10/10/19
 
The Rotary Club of Antelope Valley conducted their weekly meeting at J’s Hideaway in Rosamond on 10 October 2019.  The meeting was called to order by President Gene Melchers at 12:00 PM.  Those in attendance included Charlene Melchers, Sam Garcia, Chuck Church, Don Ryan, Karen Schultz, Margarite Lite, Pastor Dave Brown, Sharon Freeman, Gene Melchers and guests Steve Fox and Miss City of Rosamond Victoria Fox.  Everyone enjoyed lunch.  The formal meeting began after the Flag Salute, Invocation and 4-Way Test.   
 
President Gene Melchers asked Don Ryan to introduce our guests today.  Mr. Ryan introduced Attorney and former Assemblyman Steve Fox and his granddaughter Victoria Fox (Miss City of Rosamond).  Mr. Fox spoke to the audience about the process of ushering proposed legislation through the Assembly and into law.  Mr. Fox also spoke about different articles of legislation that he was able to push through the process and become law when previously in office.  Since he is running for Assemblyman in the next election, he also compared is record of legislation drafted (including passed and failed) against the current Assemblyman.  At the conclusion of his presentation, President Gene Melchers thanked Mr. Fox for his briefing to the Club.      
 
At the conclusion of Mr. Fox’s presentation, the Club began business discussions. 
 
The Club is a little behind schedule in processing winners in the Monday Night Football game fund raiser.  Charlene has been very busy with Internal Revenue Service paperwork and will try to get caught up by the next meeting.  Charlene did report on the Septemberfest Hot Dog booth on September 21, 2019.  It was a fun morning and afternoon.  The Club made approximately $200 from the event.  Charlene thanked everyone who was able to attend and help with the booth. 
 
Sharon Freeman reported on the status of our upcoming Oktoberfest on October 19, 2019.  The Club will have several Interact volunteers from Lancaster to help at the event.  Chuck Church indicated that he had 73 confirmed ticket sales for attendance to the event.  Several Club members still have ticket stubs to turn in and additional requests for tickets.  Personnel assignments were made for Oktoberfest.  The Admission Table will be Chuck & Tina, the Drink Ticket Table will be Tim & Yolanda, Entry Sign Set Up will be Sam, Bar Operation will be Don & Vickie, Basket Table Set Up will be Tina & the Interact Club Volunteers, the Guest Tables Set Up will be Sam, Chuck, Gene and our student volunteers and the Remaining Groceries will be purchased by Janice.   The Club is anticipating food preparation for approximately 120 guests.  Remember to get your ticket stub data to Chuck and cash and checks to Tina Borzage. 
 
Don Ryan reported that the Leflar Grant is ready for submittal.   Chuck Church has submitted our request to the Board of Supervisors for our LA County Grant.  Chuck also generated our DDF Grant request and submitted it for Club approval.  Don Ryan has approved the submittal.  One additional person on the signature list must approve the request before it can be submitted to the District for approval.
 
The Club will meet next week at Panera Bread in Palmdale on October 15, 2019 at 7:30 AM.  The Club be dark on October 23, 2019 and the last meeting of the month will be at IHOP in Palmdale on October 30, 2019 at 6:30 PM.   
 
There was no additional business to discuss.
