Meeting Recap 12/12/19

The Rotary Club of Antelope Valley conducted their weekly meeting at J’s Hideaway in Rosamond on 12 December 2019.  The meeting was called to order by President Elect Sam Garcia at 12:00 PM.  Those in attendance included Charlene Melchers, Chuck Church, Karen Schultz, Margarite Lite, Pastor Dave Brown, Sharon Freeman, Sam Garcia and guests T.J. Moore and Omar Ramos both Sheriff’s Deputies.  Everyone enjoyed lunch.  The formal meeting began after the Flag Salute, Invocation and 4-Way Test.

President Elect Sam Garcia introduced our guests for the day.  The Officers spoke of the difficulties of patrolling such a vast area as Kern County with very limited personnel.  One of the biggest problems is that of Deputy retention.  Deputies can get higher hourly rates in other counties and often transfer to other areas.  This is being worked by the County Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff’s Department personnel.

The Club briefly discussed the results of the Children’s Christmas Shopping Spree.  The event was a big success and the children all left Walmart with shopping carts full of beautifully wrapped gifts.  The Club decided to absorb the cost of breakfasts for the Lancaster Interact Students.

The final item of discussion was that Sam and Janice Garcia offered to host the Christmas Dinner Meeting rather than to postpone it until January.  The meeting will be at the Garcia’s home from 6:00 to 8:00 on December 18, 2019.  It will be potluck and there will be a $20 gift exchange.

There was no additional business to discuss.

President Elect Sam Garcia adjourned the meeting at 1:00 PM.
