MEETING RECAP 12/21/16
The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Sizzler Restaurant in Palmdale on 21 December 2016. The meeting was called to order by President Chuck Church at 6:40 PM. Members in attendance were: Sharon Freeman, Tina Borzage, Janice Garcia, Sam Garcia, Rosana Budd and guest Laureano Flores. Everyone enjoyed dinner. The formal meeting began at 7:00.
President Chuck Church briefed the Club on the flow down from the President’s meeting on Monday, December 19th. The President’s meeting was poorly attended; Palmdale and Rosamond were the only clubs in attendance. Charlene Melchers presented the schedule for upcoming events from February through May 2017. Events included: PETS from February 10-12 at the LA Marriott, President’s Advance from February 24-26 at the Palm Springs Hilton, BODTS on March 18, District Assembly on April 22 at the Sitting Bull Academy in Apple Valley, and District Conference from May 17-22 at the Palm Springs Hilton.
Then next item of business was to finalize the Club’s donation to Valerie Lensing for her children’s projects at Manzanita Elementary School and the Palmdale Learning Center. The Club has pledged $400 for the events. Chuck Church and other individuals in the club have pledged the remaining $400. Chuck Church presented his check to Tina Borzage at the Christmas Dinner Party last week. The Club will vote on a formal motion for the $400 pledge at the Board Meeting on 4 January 2017.
Christmas Shopping Spree expenses were discussed. David Maddock has been reimbursed for his expenses at the Shopping Spree (Breakfasts at McDonalds, gift cards for the children and gift purchases by the children for their families. Final details will be presented at the Board Meeting on 4 January 2017.
In November, the Club agreed to donate $100 to the Rotaplast Project to match last year’s donation. Chuck Church pledged another $100 to the project. Chuck presented his check to Tina Borzage at the Christmas Dinner Party last week.
It was motioned and 2nd‘Ed to accept Laureano Flores into the Palmdale Club. Mr. Flores is currently a member of the Wilmington Club and will be transferring his membership to the Rotary Club of Palmdale. Janice Garcia will start processing the transfer paperwork in DACdb.
One final item of business took place when President Chuck Church presented gifts to the restaurant Manager Douglas Ortega, his assistant manager Christian and our two regular servers Cathy and John. They were all very appreciative of the gifts and the Club Members were very appreciative of Sizzler’s service.
Under Old Business, Chuck agreed to continue to try and contact Veronica Jordan at Walmart and set up a date for her to attend one of the Club’s Meetings in order to present her with our plaque of appreciation.
There was no New Business. The meeting adjourned at 7:45.
