Meeting Recap 02/21/18
The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Sizzler’s Restaurant in Palmdale on 21 February 2018. The meeting was called to order by President Sam Garcia at 6:30 PM. Members in attendance were: Janice Garcia, Sharon Freeman, David Maddock, Chuck Church, Yolanda Risch and Sam Garcia. Everyone enjoyed dinner. The formal meeting began at 7:00.
The first item of business was David Maddock’s review of PETS. Since most Club Members have been President one or more times, David kept his update very brief. The main focus of the seminar was to continue to update incoming Presidents on what it takes to run your club, bring in new members, stay in touch with your membership, continue to serve your community and support the Rotary Foundation. Emphasis was placed on bringing in young members (specifically millennials). They are a different type of member from the traditional Rotary Club member.
The next item of business was to continue discussion on our students who will be attending RYLA Camp. Sharon Freeman reported that we have a 2nd student for camp. The District indicated that we could send two female students rather than the desired one female and one male student. We will be having a power point briefing for the students and their parents at next week’s meeting to help give the parents a better understanding of Rotary and what it does in the community and the world.
The final item on the agenda for discussion was an update from David Maddock on a potential project with the Palmdale Animal Care Center. David has a meeting scheduled on the 28th of February with the Manager of the Palmdale Animal Care Center and Pauline East to see what the Club can do to support the shelter. Thus far Sam, Janice, Chuck and Sharon are planning to attend the meeting.
Old Business:
Under Old Business, Chuck Church confirmed that we have a booth(s) confirmed at
the Swap Meet for our Spring Blowout Sale. The date is April 15, 2018.
In addition, Chuck Church also mentioned that we have the use of the Palmdale
Chamber of Commerce board room for our March Board meeting. We will discuss
further details at out February 28th meeting.
