Meeting Recap 07/10/19

The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their monthly Board meeting at Gino’s Italian Restaurant in Palmdale on 10 July 2019.  The meeting was called to order by President Gene Melchers at 6:30 PM.  Members in attendance were Janice Garcia, Sam Garcia, Chuck Church, Don Ryan, Yolanda Risch, Charlene Melchers and Gene Melchers.  Full details of the meeting will be presented at next month’s Board meeting when the minutes are read and approved.  Everyone enjoyed dinner.  The formal meeting began at 7:00 PM.

Secretary Janice Garcia read the minutes from the May Board meeting.  The Minutes were approved.

Chuck Church read the Treasurer’s Report for the month ending May 31, 2019 in Tina Borzage’s absence.  The report was approved.

President Gene Melchers worked through the lengthy agenda for the evening’s meeting.

Sharon Freeman is replacing Janice Garcia as Club Secretary for the 2019-2020 Rotary year.  The requested change was voted on and approved.

Bylaws and Policies & Procedures have been submitted.  It remains to be seen if the Club needs to submit an updated version of the Constitution.

It has been decided to go with Mission Bank as our new combined Club financial institution.  Gene, Tina and Charlene will be the authorized signers on the account.  Gene will set up a date for the new signers to complete the signature cards at Mission Bank.  It was decided to obtain a credit card and a debit card for the account.

All joining Clubs were asked to bring their financial data to the meeting for their General Account and their Trust Account.  Palmdale provided their data in the Treasurer’s Report, however the other Clubs failed to provide the requested data.  Gene Melchers suggested that each joining Club contribute $1.000.00 to open the new account.

Goals for the coming year were discussed briefly.  Gene recommended that we set up a planning session to develop short term, intermediate term and long term goals and generate a roadmap on how to successfully complete the goals.  The Planning Session will require the assistance of a knowledgeable facilitator.

The Agenda requested that each joining Club identify two projects to do for the year.  One project would be a fundraiser and the other a service project.  Gene provided a comprehensive list of Antelope Valley Rotary Club projects that included Major Projects (Christmas Shopping, First Responder Dinner, Reading Ribbons, Sunday/Funday for Yellen School art supplies and Girl & Boy Scouts projects),  Minor Projects (Bobby Oh Music, Interact, PACE [Indian School] and Youth Sponsorship), Fundraisers (Oktoberfest Special Raffle, Septemberfest, Gun Raffle, Monday Night Football, Superbowl Raffle and Sunday/Funday auction), RYLA, The Rotary Foundation (TRF), Super Build, Polio Plus and ShelterBox and finally Grants (Leflar & District).  The list will have to be reduced to a workable level as we proceed with the Rotary year.

The next meeting will be a luncheon meeting in Rosamond at J’s Hideaway on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at noon.  Due to the fact that Sizzler’s will be closed for at least 4 months, the meeting on the 24th will be at Gino’s in Palmdale.  The meeting on the 31st will be at the Green House Café in Lancaster.  This will be out annual Demotion Party.  We will ask Sharon to contact Bobby Oh to see if he could get our music students to provide some entertainment for the party.

There was no additional Business to discuss.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 PM.
