Meeting Recap 08/29/18

The Rotary Club of Palmdale conducted their weekly meeting at Sizzler’s Restaurant in Palmdale on 29 August 2018.  The meeting was called to order by President Sam Garcia at 6:40 PM.  Members in attendance were Janice Garcia, Chuck Church, Sharon Freeman, Tina Borzage, Yolanda Risch and Sam Garcia.  Everyone enjoyed dinner.  The formal meeting began at 7:00 PM.

President Sam Garcia got a request from Greg Jones, Rotary Club President of the Pasadena Club and DG Nominee for 2020-2021, regarding planning for the 5300 District Conference in May 2021 in the Antelope Valley.  Initial thinking was to have Friday as a Social Night such as having a wine trail, a microbrewery tour, a JetHawk’s game or maybe a tour of the Air Park.  Saturday would be the actual conference (two rooms needed, one for the main event and another for plenary sessions).  Sunday would include a facilitated breakfast and later a tour of the Space Port.  Everything is still in the discussion stage with committees still to be formed.

Sharon Freeman updated the Club Members on Oktoberfest.  An email was sent to Jim Micelli from the Studio City Club inviting he and his wife to Oktoberfest.  Jim indicated the event is on his calendar.  To date, 36 tickets have been sold to the event with payment and another 20 or so requesting tickets.

Tina provided a draft letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting support for this year’s Children’s Shopping Spree in December.  Chuck agreed to re-draft the letter and have it next week at our meeting.  Tina is still working with District 5300 to resolve the billing problem regarding the hospitality suite at District Convention.
