Meeting Recap 09/12/19

The Rotary Club of Antelope Valley conducted their weekly meeting at J’s Hideaway in Rosamond on 12 September 2019.  The meeting was called to order by President Gene Melchers at 12:05 PM.  Those in attendance included Charlene Melchers, Sam Garcia, Chuck Church, Don Ryan, Karen Schultz, Margarite Lite, Pastor Dave Brown, Sharon Freeman, and Gene Melchers.  Everyone enjoyed lunch.  The formal meeting began after the Flag Salute, Invocation and 4-Way Test.

President Gene Melchers introduced Don Ryan who spoke to the audience on the new regulations regarding home owners insurance.  This included discussion on fire insurance coverage, earthquake coverage and flood coverage.

At the conclusion of Mr. Ryan’s presentation, the Club began business discussions.

The Club will be serving hot dogs during and after the parade in Rosamond this Saturday as part of the Septemberfest.  Rosamond Blvd. will be closed after 10:00 AM until after 11:30 AM.  The Club will need help on setup and serving.  Serving should run through about 2:00 PM.

The Club is still finalizing the paperwork for our new combined bank account.  Charlene Melchers mentioned that our accountant will prepare our paperwork for filing taxes to the state and IRS.

Oktoberfest is coming up on October 19, 2019.  The Club will need baskets to raffle during the event.  Food has been selected.  We just need to have a close headcount before buying the food.  Sam Garcia has purchased 26 tickets to distribute.  He will distribute 20 to his employees and the remaining six tickets will be used at other events as raffle prizes. Chuck Church has started entering names and data on the spreadsheet for Oktoberfest.  Remember to get your ticket stub data to Chuck and cash and checks to Tina Borzage.

Don Ryan has finished the Club’s submittal for the Lefler Grant.  Chuck Church has submitted our request to the Board of Supervisors for our LA County Grant.  Chuck also received an email from Gene and Charlene with the information to submit our grant request to District 5300.  Funds from this grant will be used to support Mental Health America (MHA) and the Grace Resource Center.

There was no additional business to discuss.

President Gene Melchers adjourned the meeting at 1:55 PM.
