Meeting Recap 09/17/19

The Rotary Club of Antelope Valley conducted their weekly meeting at Panera Bread in Palmdale on 17 September 2019.  The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Don Ryan at 7:30 AM.  Those in attendance included Gene Melchers, Charlene Melchers, Chuck Church, Karen Schultz and Don Ryan.  Our guest speaker for the morning was A.J. Hampton.  The formal meeting began after the Flag Salute, Invocation and 4-Way Test.

Vice-President Don Ryan introduced our guest A.J. Hampton.  A.J. is a local swimming pool contractor and coordinator of a non-profit organization for kids.  The organization is Building Better Children (BBC).  The organization was established to help underprivileged, at risk and special needs children to help them complete their education and become productive citizens in the community.  A.J. and others are putting on a show at the AV Fairgrounds called AutoRama to help raise funds for their foundation.  The event will be November 16-17, 2019.  It will include a car show and aftermarket auto parts & accessories vendors.  The Club is interested in helping BBC and will discuss further at the next meeting.

At the conclusion of A.J.’s presentation, the Club began business discussions.

The Club will be serving hot dogs during and after the parade in Rosamond this Saturday as part of the Septemberfest.  Rosamond Blvd. will be closed after 10:00 AM until after 11:30 AM.  Club volunteers are needed to help with setup and serving.  Serving should run through about 2:00 PM.

The Club is still finalizing the paperwork for our new combined bank account.  Tina Borzage has the paperwork and just needs to return the signed paperwork to Gene Melchers.

Oktoberfest is coming up on October 19, 2019.  The Club will need baskets to raffle during the event.  Food has been selected.  We just need to have a close headcount before buying the food.    Remember to get your attendance ticket stub data and bonus raffle ticket stub data to Chuck Church and cash and checks to Tina Borzage.

There was no additional business to discuss.

Vice-President Don Ryan adjourned the meeting at 8:25 AM.
