On October 27, 2023 the Valkyries of Keppel Unified School District in Palmdale held their “Girls Night Out Event” at Daisy Gibson Elementary School Auditorium. The Valkyries is a Middle School Club for girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) oriented careers. The event was sponsored in part by the Rotary Club of Antelope Valley. Over 100 Students (7th, 8th, and 9th Graders), family, and friends attended the event.
The program consisted of multiple projects (both scientific and fun) for the girls to stimulate interest in STEM, speakers from the local community, and a movie to close out the night. The projects for the girls were fun and included: Binary Coded Necklaces, Constellation Paper Circuits, and Silly Scary Robots.
The speakers were interesting and discussed multiple topics open to women. They included: Aerospace possibilities, Youth Cadet Corp opportunities for women, opportunities in Wildlife Resources and outdoor recreation.
The evening closed out with a movie and refreshments. The evening was very successful and the Valkyries are looking forward to their next project.
