The Rotary Club of Antelope Valley sent four club members to support the 2026 Corazon SuperBuild. Sam Garcia, Tina Borzage, Hudson Horner, and Griffen Horner participated in the 2026 build. The project begins with an early 5:30 AM start from Chula Vista, California to the build site in Tijuana, Mexico. After a quick border crossing, the team will change from a comfortable coach to a school bus for the final trip to the build site.
Senior workers will be on hand to organize the workers into teams. The receiving family will be met and work will begin. Unlike other years when the home was constructed in an open flat area, this year’s home would be located on the side of a steep hill. Workers were separated into painters, framers, plywood prep, and roofers. All construction materials had to be hauled up the hill from the drop off location. By 9:30 AM construction was in full swing. The framework walls were individually laid out. Sheeting was measured and cut to size for the walls. The walls were raised into place. The roof framework was put in place. The roof sheeting was added and then the shingles were nailed in place. There was a noon time lunch break. Food was prepared by the local residents. By 5:00 PM the house was completed. The receiving Family were presented the keys to their new home. They thanked everyone involved.
The home is approximately 18 feet by 20 feet with an asphalt shingle roof, mesh protected windows, a locking front door, and a sleeping loft. Downstairs has a partitioned living space, a kitchen corner with built in shelving, and a three-quarter bathroom. After the presentation ceremony, the Rotarians returned to Chula Vista for dinner, a good night’s sleep, and a return home the next day.
